Pathways to US Clinical Rotations
VSLO® & Affiliate Electives
The gold standard for senior medical students.
The Visiting Student Learning Opportunities® (VSLO) program and other affiliate agreements offer hands-on electives at US teaching hospitals. These are highly competitive and require meticulous preparation.
Common Requirements:
Direct-Apply Programs
Accessible opportunities for international students.

Some US institutions and private organizations offer clinical experiences specifically for international medical students and graduates. While varying in scope, these provide valuable exposure to the US system and opportunities to build connections for LoRs. We help vet and identify quality programs that fit your profile.
Our Letter of Recommendation (LoR) Strategy
A great LoR is earned. We provide the framework to help you secure strong, personalized letters.

Designate Supervisor
Identify and build rapport with a specific attending physician or supervisor early in your rotation.

Deliverables Calendar
We help you create a timeline for requesting the letter, providing your CV/personal statement, and sending gentle follow-ups.

Target 2-3 US LoRs
The goal for every candidate is to secure a minimum of 2-3 strong LoRs from US clinical faculty to submit with your residency application.

An Important Distinction
Hands-on vs. Hands-off Experience
Post-graduation "observerships" or "externships" can be used to supplement your application, but they carry significantly less weight with residency program directors than hands-on clinical electives completed while you are still an enrolled medical student. Our primary focus is securing these high-value, in-training experiences.
